At the very recently held event in India, Xiaomi has just launched its two new high-end performance budget segment smartphones, under the Redmi series in the Indian market. Where the devices came named as Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7. While in terms of design and specifications, both the smartphones, Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7 appears similar, with the only difference at pricing. Display & Design

Starting with display & design, both Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7 emphasizes quite similar. On display, features a 6.26-inch HD+ Dot Notch display of screen resolution 720 x 1,520 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio, layered with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and an 84-percent NTSC color gamut.

Whereas, on design, the Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7, both comes stylishly with the pattered and plain glossy finish body, where Redmi Y3 get the Aura Prism design, while the Redmi 7 features an Aura Smoke design and both come available in color options Elegant Blue, Prime Black, and Bold Red.

System & Performance

Under the hood, both Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7, come packed with the same Qualcomm’s 14nm entry-level chipset, Snapdragon 632, with octa-core processing, clocked at 1.8 GHz and Adreno 506 GPU.

While on RAM and storage, the Redmi Y3 comes coupled at 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, while Redmi 7 at 2GB RAM + 32GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, respectively.

Running on the latest operating system Android 9.0 Pie based on MIUI 10 and the entire device powered by 4000mAh non-removable battery.

On other specs, under the hood, both the devices support, dual 4G, dual VoLTE, Carrier aggregation, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, a dedicated microSD card slot for further expansion up to 512GB, MicroUSB 2.0 port, IR Blaster. So, indeed of having same hardware both the devices offers the same performance output.


Getting on Cameras, both Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7, on the rear features the same 12MP+2MP AI-driven dual camera setup, where the primary 12MP sensor comes with 1.25µm pixel size and f/2.2 aperture and the secondary 2MP sensor just calculates the depth in the image. Which features auto scene detection and capability to take Full HD resolution videos at 60fps.

While on the front, both Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7, comes entirely apart. Here, as the Redmi 7 features the 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, on the other hand, being a selfie-centric smartphone, Redmi Y3 spots a whopping 32MP sensor of aperture f/2.2.

However, with Redmi Y3, the default selfies shooter comes set at 8MP, which the users manually needs to turn on to 32MP mode, every time before capturing a selfie.


As part of security, both Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3 features a software-based face unlock system and a fingerprint scanner on the rear.


Coming on pricing, the Redmi 7 comes priced for 2GB RAM + 32GB storage at Rs 7,999 and the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage at Rs 8,999, respectively. While the Redmi Y3 comes priced at 3GB RAM + 32GB storage at Rs 9,999 and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage at Rs 11,999,respectively.

Finally, in conclusion, both Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7, appears at a marvelous price point, but for if you come loving capture selfie, then Redmi Y3 would be a worthy choice.
